The FACES Project

The FACES Project was launched as an initiative of engaged, philanthropic people, whose goal is to contribute to international understanding by detailed documentations of the fascinating diversity of the peoples of our world.

One of the driving forces for the establishment of FACES was the concern that in an era of accelerating globalization nations and continents draws closer but yet we know only little about each other.

Of equal concern is the fact that many people groups have never been either investigated or documented and that many of those peoples may be assimilated into larger people groups and possibly vanish in as little as a generation which would include the irrevocable disappearance of their languages and habits.

To the founders, presenting people groups in a positive light as well as the preservation of information regarding these people groups is as valuable as efforts to document or preserve historical places, buildings, documents or works of art. The founders believe this information must be safe-guarded for future generations just as the world now, for example, actively promotes world heritage sites. Furthermore, the accelerating pace of globalization, and a perceived lack of initiatives to preserve this information, not only for the most endangered groups but for all peoples, prompted the founders to aim for the most complete documentation of these traditions, languages and cultures for future generations.

With "globalization" being a present phenomenon, nations and continents draw closer and require a better understanding of each other. The world today contains several thousand people groups, yet they know very little about each other.

By realization of this ambitious project, understanding and communication among nations will increase, leading to an improvement in quality of life. Common values will be introduced by tracing our common ancestry, and the project clearly supports bilateral processes of building stable bridges among nations.

This work provides new insights into the peoples of the world on a recognizable level in our modern society, and it may be helpful for understanding of cultural differences and similarities, thus improving our lives. Potentially, roots for current conflicts among ethnic groups worldwide may be traced, and forgiveness among the peoples may be more easily obtained once knowledge is gained. Watching peoples within their cultural environment and listening to the languages will furthermore bridge the gap between cultures and establish understanding.

The work of FACES is of sustainable, educational value empowering a new generation to be inspired and motivated to reach for their goals and contribute toward a peaceful environment.

The FACES Project Documentation efforts capture and preserve, through a variety of media, the fascinating diversity of the world's people groups.

Aesthetically appealing and high-quality photo documentation of various groups of peoples, and corresponding video and audio sequences, will make the diversity of mankind clearly and emphatically visible. This objective is met by applying state-of-the-art scientific techniques combined with a computer- and internet-based photographic and video-documentation. This collection, only possible by help of modern techniques, will represent a unique work of art that will stand and speak clearly by itself.

The photographs and short video-clips will create an album of thousands of faces as an outstanding recording of the fascinating diversity of mankind. Watching peoples within their cultural environment and listening to the languages will furthermore bridge the gap between cultures and establish understanding.
